GOSHEN FIRE FIGHTERS TO HOST FLOAT
PARADE
CHANCE FOR PUBLIC TO PARTICIPATE
Chief Sean P. Thornton of the Goshen Fire Department
has announced that his Volunteer Department will once again sponsor
a "Mardi Gras" type Float Parade in conjunction with the
Triennial Fire Parade scheduled for June 10th in the Village of
Goshen.
The Chief noted that the afternoon Fire Parade is limited to the
Goshen Fire Fighters, their guests and musical units while the evening
Float Parade gives the public a chance to enjoy the day's festivities
and even win a prize trophy. The theme of the 2006 Float Parade
is "The Minisink's 100th Anniversary" celebrating the
100th birthday of the Minisink H. & L. Co. No. 1, Inc, one of
Goshen's three fire companies (and the youngest of the group).
Chief Thornton explained that the size of the parade entry is not
as important as the fact that people participate. Vehicles of all
sizes are welcome as are people marching in groups of any size.
Judges will be reviewing the entries during the parade, choosing
winners in categories such as Most Beautiful, Most Humorous, Best
Application to Theme and Most Original. There will also be an award
for the best individual in the parade ( on or off a float ) as well
as a "Blue Ribbon Trophy" for the best entry in the parade.
As in past years, the Goshen Fire Companies will have entries in
the parade but the Chief emphasized that the Goshen fire fighters
would be competing only against each other, not against other entries.
The chief urged everyone to give some serious thought to joining
in this event and showing their support for the Goshen Fire Fighters
and, especially, the Minisinks. Clubs, groups, school classes, businesses,
families, and everyone else is asked to come out and help make this
Goshen's best Float Parade ever.
There is still time to take part, still time to make up an entry,
still time to show your support. Please drop a note to the following
individual if you wish to participate, then start the planning and
building - chief Thornton stated that, "This will not be a
success unless everyone pitches in."
Please drop a note to: Elmer Budd, Parade Chairman, 14 High Street,
